So, let me have you envision what it is you could have — not just with my daughter, but with any Catholic girl out there, there are plen-ty, you just need to start opening yourself up to the idea of what it would be like..
I’m here, we’ve busted our rear ends taking care of ill loved ones, we’ve spent the day in the kitchen, prepping, cooking, souping, everything, basic housewifing, with Lauren by my side. I start, I finish. This is how it’s meant to be, daughter learning at the hip of her mother to pass on familial traditions, closeness, love.
Now I turn to her as she sits by my side, crocheting for her little sister. I show her my screen of a young gentleman I follow —
.. one of many traditional architecture-rebuid civilization feeds I follow, and I ask her, When you envision your husband, what do you see him making, creating? Fixing, mending, healing?
She says —
Enjoyment of the world, something fulfilling.. I'd be a cool if he had a profession that he could constantly contemplate God in, virologist or astronomer, etc. something where He sees God & he can come home & tell me abt his reflections.. I saw this, built this, saw this in nature & it really made me think about God.
This is what it would be if you could just turn to your wife as you contemplate the world.. one continuous conversation, non-stop after you’ve begun to have a rhythm of one with her. It’s easy. And meant to be.
Holy conversations like this — about God, life, love, the world as God sees it, as He wants it — I’ve had with my children since forever. Our guiding principal is that there is none, there is only God, and anything we see, we attempt to see through the eyes of Jesus, of sanctity, of purity.
Holy conversations like this are easy, they’re what every good Catholic should be having, day to day with those they know and love. In theory, it sounds great, in practice, it may be difficult — we travel, we move. Do we have the holy network in place? If not, how do we cultivate it? Where? We can start with our daily prayer & holy thinking, then move from there into our social practices, online & in real life.
Before you know it, you can take over holding the mantle we’ve gathered under — from my family, from any Catholic family, or from a holy young maiden who’s made one all on her own.
